Who Can Participate
All individuals of legal age residing in Finland can participate in the Challenge, excluding employees of IHME Helsinki and Cooking Sections, as well as individuals involved in the planning of the Challenge. Individuals under 18 years old can participate with the permission of their guardians. Participating community groups and baking collectives should nominate a representative for communication purposes.
How to Participate in the Challenge
The Challenge begins on 15 April 2024, and ends on 1 September 2024, at 23:59. The Organizer does not accept submissions received before or after the start or end of the Challenge. Recipes submitted for the Challenge must adhere to the Challenge instructions, which can be found on the Challenge website at www.maaleipa.fi/guidelines.
To participate in the Challenge, submit a recipe and a photo or video of the bread, along with a brief accompanying text, through the form available on the Maaleipä Challenge website: www.maaleipa.fi/participate. Participation in the Challenge requires filling out the form, providing the requested personal information, and consenting to the publication of your bread recipe and the accompanying photo or video on the Challenge website and IHME Helsinki’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn). The publication of the bread recipe can be done under a pseudonym if the participant does not wish to publish their own name.
From the recipes submitted for the Challenge by 1 September 2024, the jury will shortlist the finalists. The finalists will have an additional week to bake two breads, which will be presented at the Maaleipä Finals on 21 September 2024. The jury will decide on the Challenge’s winners and reward them at the event. The finalists will be notified in advance and asked to participate in the event in Helsinki at Teurastamo Kellohalli (Työpajankatu 2). The finalists will be photographed with their breads during the Award Ceremony and the finalist recipes will be published on maaleipa.fi website. There is no separate payment for the publication of the recipe and photo or video.
Prizes and Announcement
The competition prizes are 1000 € money prize, two Mockmill Lino 100 grain mills (each worth €459) and two baskets of raw materials suitable for producing Maaleipä bread (each worth €100). Alternatively, instead of a grain mill, the winners can choose a gift voucher of the same value to a food co-operative of their choice. The five winners will be selected at the Maaleipä Finals on Saturday 21 September 2024, when the winners’ names and prizes will also be announced. The jury’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
Processing of Personal Data
IHME processes participants’ personal data to run the Challenge and to award prizes. Personal data may also be used with the participant’s consent to provide information about the progress of the Challenge or for marketing purposes. There is more information about the processing of personal data in IHME Helsinki’s privacy policy.
Organizer’s Liability
IHME’s liability to participants does not exceed the value of the prizes mentioned in these rules. Participants are responsible for any other taxes incurred, such as income tax.
By participating, the participant releases IHME and any other potential partners involved in organizing the Challenge from any damages arising from or claimed to arise from participation in this Challenge. IHME is not responsible for any technical problems or obstacles arising from participating in the Challenge or for failure to receive prizes due to technical reasons.
Rights to Submitted Material within the Scope of the Challenge
By participating in the Challenge, the participant confirms that they have created the recipe and material (“Challenge Material”) submitted for the Challenge themselves, or if the Challenge Material has been created by a third party (e.g., a relative), they have obtained consent to participate in the Challenge with the Challenge Material according to these terms and conditions. The participant assures that the Challenge Material does not violate any laws, good practices, third-party rights, including intellectual property rights, honour, privacy, or trade secrets, or is otherwise contrary to these rules.
By submitting the Challenge Material through the Challenge website, the participant grants IHME an unrestricted right to use the Challenge Material without compensation and the right to modify and transfer the Challenge Material further in the manner it deems best. Based on this right of use, IHME has the right to use the Challenge Material in communication and marketing on its social media channels and websites and in other activities related to the Challenge for an unlimited period.
Other Terms
If there is reason to suspect fraud or participation in a manner other than specified in the rules, IHME has the right to reject participation. IHME will announce any changes to the Challenge, prizes, timing, availability, or other factors affecting the implementation of the Challenge on the Challenge website and the IHME Helsinki website (https://ihmehelsinki.fi/en/), as well as on the Challenge’s marketing channels. IHME reserves the right to make changes to the Challenge and to the rules that do not essentially affect the participant.
